RPGs 201: Improving your Game

Have you mastered the basics of RPGs like D&D, but are looking to “up your game” and improve your GMing style?

Are you curious about the techniques and lessons of experienced professional Game Masters?

Game Mastering for your friends is a lot of fun— but it can also be a lot of work, and at times can feel overwhelming! This class will help Game Masters learn how to run the game more smoothly and efficiently, and make sure that your players stay invested and have a blast. This class will be more flexible, allowing for experienced Game Masters to raise questions and issues directly during the presentation. It will include topics such as:

  • Engaging Players: Maintaining the fun, introducing new players

  • Streamlining Play: How (and when) to keep gameplay and action moving

  • Specialized Groups: Running for coworkers, kids groups, and pick-up groups

  • Common Table Issues: Creative solutions to common problems

  • Preparation: Tips and tricks to making the most of your prep time

  • Question & Answer: Submit your own questions, broad or specific

RPGs 101: Learning to Run the Game

Greetings New Adventurers!

Have you heard of tabletop Roleplaying Games like Dungeons & Dragons, but don’t know where to start?

Are you interested in leading your friends on their own personal adventure, but you’ve never played, let alone stepped “behind the screen” as a Game Master?

Roleplaying games allow you to invite your friends to use their imagination and tell a collective, improvisational story. They are some of the most fun you can have around a table; but for new players, it can be tricky to figure out where to begin! This class will go over the basics of running a beginner-level RPG session with your friends, family, or even coworkers! Topics will include:

  • Session Fundamentals: What you need, and what you don’t

  • Before the Session: Where to start, and how to prepare before the game

  • Rules Essentials: Which rules should you know, and which can you ignore

  • Adventure Recommendations: What to stories to run, what to avoid, and why

  • Teaching New Players: Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
